Why Foodies Love Muesli?!
30 November, 2018    Concetta

I have heard people argue “foodies love everything!” Everything?! Really? I think not. I think foodies can love and enjoy the taste of good food while being conscious of whether the food is nutritious and really honestly good for them.

For these health-conscious, balance-seeking food enthusiasts, muesli is the perfect food. Why?! Well, it ticks all the boxes! It is bursting with goodness. From fibre to vitamins and minerals, it is loaded with the whole shebang. It has so much of what we’d normally miss out on in the course of a regular meal. Plus, it packs lots of energy, and works great as an awesome breakfast cereal for kickstarting your day!

Muesli has caught the world’s imagination and quickly become mainstream food. It is easy to see, with around-the-corner mum and pop stores, gourmet shops as well as the supermarkets, all, stocking-up their aisles with a variety of muesli. The once alternate breakfast has made a transition. And what is not to love about it?!

Think convenience

No one can function properly on an empty stomach. And, whether you are one to ease into your day after a beautiful morning routine or one to quickly take a plunge and jumpstart the day tackling that first chore – you will love the comfort and convenience of muesli for breakfast!

Not only that, muesli is good on its own. But add a dollop of yogurt, garnish with pomegranate syrup or honey, and splash-in a wee-bit of coconut or almond milk, and it is something else altogether.

It is easy to carry on you when you are going out on your day trips, travels or picnics. It makes for a great trail mix. And, it is ideal to keep on you when you feel the slightest bit of hunger.

Good for the gut

The fibre and nutrition from the raw natural ingredients in muesli work wonders on your gut. The fibre feeds the gut flora (or the friendly gut bacteria) and massages and cleans your gut. The fibre also contains beta-glucans, a type of soluble fibre that can bust cholesterol.

The natural and healthy fats from seeds and nuts in muesli also help tremendously. They are known to strengthen bone health and cognitive function.

Muesli needs to be chewed well. This is a good thing. It is exercise for the jaw, yes. But more importantly, it forces us to be mindful of what we are eating. In this mindful state, the body readies-up to receive the nutrients, channelling all goodness straight to where it is required most.

What you need to be careful about

I do believe that muesli is the perfect food. But like with everything, too much of a good thing can be bad! Muesli needs to be consumed in the right quantity to be beneficial. Here are a few things to keep in mind while enjoying muesli:

  • Although muesli is considered low GI food with low Glycemic Index, it is best not to overconsume. Serve size truly matters, do not exceed the recommended serve size.
  • Be mindful and judicious while adding more nuts and seeds, desiccated coconut, or fresh fruits to the mix.
  • The fruit bits and fresh fruit can make your muesli naturally sweet. Store-bought muesli may contain sugar. Be mindful and judicious while adding sugar, honey or syrup to your muesli.
  • Muesli can last for a long time when stored properly. Store your muesli in sealed containers in a cool and dry spot away from direct heat or sunlight. You can also refrigerate muesli to maintain freshness.
  • Listen and pay attention to the signs your body gives at all times. Your body will tell you when you are full and satisfied with your meal.
  • Look out for nuts or seeds that may trigger allergies. As far as possible go for dairy-free, gluten-free, wheat-free and organic options.
  • Remember, homemade is better than store-bought. This is why Nuts&Stuff muesli is your favourite muesli experience. Nuts&Stuff muesli is premium, handcrafted muesli that is made with love!
